MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX- Conroe native Brent Franklin has made millions for himself and others, through a plethora of wildly varied types of business, despite being a ninth-grade Conroe High School dropout. While many successful people from humble beginnings choose to hide their pasts and the attached stigmas, Franklin wears his like a badge of honor! Now, the man who may be the exception to every rule can also take pride in saying he’s responsible for the first drilling operation in many years, in the old forgotten Conroe oil fields. Among his successful endeavors, he launched a company called Rise Drilling, “a contract driller for an operating company” and they recently set up the drilling rig that quickly proved Franklin’s instincts were correct.
They found oil and gas even faster than expected! Franklin was thrilled to have a successful project at home in Conroe, where he could sleep in his own bed instead of a hotel, was also inspired!
“We’ve been reaching out to people that own oil and gas leases,” he said. “They may have old wells on their property, or they might have reserves left behind, and what we’re doing is, we’re partnering with busy business professionals to raise capital and start drilling some of these old oil wells up again.”
Franklin said these are “conventional plays”, which simply means “drilling a straight up and down, vertical well”. Many were abandoned long ago for various reasons, he says, such as the economy and the price of oil.
“They started going for more prolific plays, such as the Eagle Ford Shale, and the plays that are out in the Permian Basin,” he said. “Nowadays, we still know there’s a ton of oil and gas here, and us drilling these old conventional plays provides a ton of opportunity for people to get tax benefits, and to have some steady income during the time of recession, while the economy is the way that it is.”
Franklin said, for people interested in more information about seizing the drilling opportunity, he also launched Rise Capital Fund – a fund that manages private equity and partners with hardworking people who want their fair share.
“We also buy a ton of production, so if you have someone who owns oil and gas wells and they don’t really know how to get them going again or they don’t have any funds to get them going, you can reach out to us at southtexaswellbuyers.com and we love to partner with mineral owners, property owners, people just like yourself who want to rejuvenate the oil field and build a better future – especially right here in Montgomery County.”
The Conroe well was set for 9,600 feet. Franklin said his company examines similar wellbores with similar geology and similar characteristics to determine the depth. Franklin said he thought when the Rise crew drilled at the Conroe Oil field, they would hit gas at the 5,000-to-5,400-foot range, and he they did.
“We hit significant gas and some really great oil shows, so we decided to go ahead and complete the well in those formations,” Franklin said.
He said the operator plans to drill some more wells in the same area, and start a drilling program after they go to Madisonville and start drilling a couple of wells there next week. Franklin said he believes there’s an “absolute ton of opportunity left in Conroe” for drilling oil and gas. He’s so enthusiastic about drilling in his hometown, it’s difficult for anyone listening not to get excited too.
“It’s really cool to be doing this in my hometown,” Franklin said. “I think there’s a ton of opportunity to create local jobs with our drilling company, create jobs with our workover company, and start producing some of this Texas crude that we know is here.”
Franklin says they have technology called “Seismic” that can reveal reservoirs in the ground. They survey of the property, stake where to drill the well, build a pad location, and then drill the well. They set a surface casing to protect them from mixing anything into any freshwater reservoirs that might be present, and then they drill to the bottom and a take a log so they can see the depth of the oil and gas inside of the wellbore, if they’re present. In that case, they leave a casing inside and return at a later date. If the wellbore showed no oil or gas, they would fill it with cement and end that project, losing everyone’s money. However, Franklin says that hasn’t been a problem thus far.
“Our Rise Drilling Company has never drilled a dry hole to date,” he said. “Not for us, or for a customer.”
With Franklin’s long winning streak, the native son’s interest in drilling near home may be a godsend for Montgomery County, and for those who seize the moment.
“New opportunities are rising in Conroe,” Franklin said. “Growing a business in today’s economy is difficult, and everyone faces challenges, but if you want an opportunity to do something in Conroe – if you know of wells, or if you know want to get into the oil and gas game on already producing oil and gas wells, reach out to us now!”
