Local teen critically injured

A Caney Creek High School junior remains hospitalized in critical condition following a Saturday night automobile accident. Just before midnight, MCHD EMS and Grangerland Fire Department responded to Crockett Martin Road near White Rock Road, between FM 2090 and SH 105 East, where they found a 1996 Chevrolet pickup heavily damaged, in the middle of the road. A 2004 Isuzu SUV was in a nearby yard with extensive right rear damage, and 17-year-old Shelby Andrus was beside it with life-threatening injuries.

Because of heavy fog, no medical helicopters were flying patients. Medics took Andrus by ground ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center in Houston where she remained in critical condition on Sunday.

The driver of the pickup was Conroe resident Dusty Perry, who had only minor injuries and was treated and released on the scene. His female passenger, who also sustained minor injuries, was transported by ground ambulance Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands.

Trooper Jay Smith with the Texas Department of Public Safety said Andrus was northbound on Crockett Martin when she went into a left hand curve. The road was wet and her vehicle began to slide. She overcorrected and slid into the front of Perry’s pickup, striking it with the right rear of her vehicle. The impact was so great that debris was thrown under a parked vehicle at the home in front of the accident.

Andrus lives on Crockett Bend Drive, a short distance from the crash site.
