Widespread showers will develop today producing some locally heavy rainfall for areas north and west of the Houston Metro. Minor urban and small stream flooding is possible.
Moist southerly flow combined with a weak low-pressure system moving overhead will result in widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms through this evening. We can expect increasing coverage of precipitation with embedded stronger storms by the late morning hours and then persisting through sunset tonight. While showers will be likely across the entire area, locations north of the US-59 corridor, and particularly for areas north and west of the Houston Metro, may see some locally heavy downpours and training showers and storms. Up to 1″ of rainfall can be expected today for most of the region, but there will be locally higher amounts of 2 to 4″+ inches for areas that see those repeating showers and storms. Minor urban or small stream flooding will be possible in the areas that receive those higher totals.
Some isolated showers may persist north of Conroe through midnight, but then a lull in the precipitation is expected through Friday morning. Then, scattered to widespread showers return to the region on Friday.
