In the month of October, in 2013, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office began receiving theft reports of brass grave markers and cemetery vases in Montgomery County. In a combined effort, Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Agents from the Texas Department of Public Safety recovered thirteen grave markers, one hundred and forty-four cemetery vases, eight brass vase rings, and three brass picture frames. The estimated value of the recovered property is $56,933.80. It was learned as a result of the investigation that brass grave markers and vases were being stolen from cemeteries in Montgomery, San Jacinto, and Harris County cemeteries.
The investigation revealed the identity of three suspects, resulting in the filing of criminal charges and the issuance of warrants on all three. Two of the three suspects have been located and arrested on the warrants. The third suspect, Michael Johnson Jr. (date of birth 08/08/1988), has not been located and has an active warrant for his arrest at this time.
