On Wednesday, August 22nd, at about 12 noon, thirty three year old Matthew Aaron Sellers was struck in the head by logs that were being loaded onto his 18 wheel truck trailer in a wooded area just off CR 2164 in mid-Liberty County. Sellers died as a result of his injuries a short time later.
According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputy Lucero Castro, Sellers who worked for the South Texas Logging & Transport Company out of Houston, was having his 18 wheel trailer loaded and for some reason he walked from the driver’s side of his truck to the passenger side and near the rear of the trailer which placed him on the blind side of the employee driving the log loader. As the operator got near the trailer, the load of logs struck Sellers in the back of the head before the driver could stop his machine.
The operator immediately called 911 and reported the accident. Upon the arrival of Deputy Castro and EMS, Castro started CPR on Sellers and continued for several minutes until fatigue caused her to give the function over to Deputy Ruben Garcia. EMS transported Sellers to the hospital but he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Pct. 6 Justice of the Peace, Judge Ralph Fuller responded to the scene and ordered an autopsy.
