LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER VOUCHERS AVAILABLE THANKS TO TALISMAN ENERGY

Montgomery County Animal Shelter (MCAS) is hosting an Adopt-A-Pet Fall Festival and will be handing out low-cost spay/neuter vouchers courtesy of Talisman Energy USA on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 10am – 4pm at the shelter located at 8535 SH 242 in Conroe, TX.

The shelter will be giving out low-cost spay and neuter vouchers for dogs and cats underwritten by Talisman Energy USA’s office of The Woodlands, TX. A co-pay of $10 per voucher is requested with a limit of two per household. Fifty vouchers will be available on site for Montgomery County residents only but are expected to go fast. “We always see a great turn out when low-cost spay neuter vouchers are available. People want to help control the pet population but often lack the funds to do so. Talisman is doing a great service to our community by offering these vouchers,” stated Minda Harris, MCAS Director. To receive vouchers, Montgomery County residents must be present at the event. No vouchers will be handed out prior to or after the event.

Talisman Energy’s leadership was made aware of Montgomery County’s pet overpopulation and the resulting increased numbers of dogs and cats at the shelter and sought to help reduce the number of pets coming into the shelter by underwriting spay and neuter vouchers for Montgomery County residents.  “The opportunity to support the important work being done by MCAS was brought to us by one of our employees, who is actively involved in the cause,” says Scott Tompkins, Director Stakeholder Relations for Talisman Energy USA. “It is important to Talisman that we invest in community initiatives, such as Adopt-A-Pet Fall Festival, that address local needs in the areas where we live and work.”

MCAS hopes the festival will increase awareness of the shelter while also raising some much-needed funding for Montgomery County Animal Society (MCASociety), the official non-profit in support of the shelter. Event festivities will include a bake and craft sale, hot dogs and refreshments for sale, fall-themed pet pictures by shelter volunteer photographer Roxanne McDaniel, children’s face painting, a paper-pumpkin donation exchange and more. MCAS will be raffling off several items including a 50” Vizio LED Smart TV, an iPhone 6 donated by Care Corporation, an Apple TV and more.

And of course, the shelter will be open for adoptions! Dogs and cats can be adopted for $80 while dogs and cats who have been at the shelter over 60 days are available for $25. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, shots and more.

Hot dogs and refreshments will be available for purchase. The bake and craft sale will feature an array of fall and Halloween themed cookies and other baked goods and handmade blankets, scarfs, candles, jewelry and more. Pet pictures with Roxanne McDaniel will allow shelter visitors to get a fall-themed picture taken with a shelter puppy or with their own pets for a donation of $10.

The MCAS pumpkin donation exchange is a pet-centric way for people to donate to MCASociety. Handmade paper “pumpkins” featuring long-term dogs and cats will be available for purchase for $10. Donors can choose the pet they would like to make their donation in honor of and take that pet’s handmade pumpkin home.

All proceeds will benefit MCASociety, a non-profit organization that supports MCAS’ homeless pets by providing medical care and equipping volunteers to find homes and save lives. MCASociety raises funds that go directly toward helping the shelter animals, including the cats and dogs being cared for in foster homes. MCASociety also educates the public about vaccinations, spay and neutering, and other animal welfare issues. For more information, email visit www.mcasociety.org.
