magnolia man dies in train crash

At 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon several patrons of Kruzzers Roadhouse on FM 1774 just north of the Montgomery/Waller County line thought it was unusual for the northbound train to keep blowing its horn. Normally they say it is once or twice but this time it was almost constant. It was enough for them to step outside and see a 2011 Chevrolet pickup sitting at a grade crossing where there were no signals as if he were about to enter private property on the west side of the tracks.

They said just as the truck crossed the tracks. Unable to stop the large freight train slammed into it carrying it down the tracks over three –hundred feet. One witness said as he was calling 911 he ran to the scene, the driver appeared already deceased and the train was still slowing.

Montgomery County Hospital District responded to the scene as did Magnolia Fire Department and Waller County EMS. It was confirmed the victim was dead. The victim in his early fifties was not identified by the Waller County Sheriff’s Office who worked the scene until family was notified. DPS Troopers also assisted Waller County with working the crash.
