Just after 3:30p.m. Wednesday afternoon MCHD and New Caney Fire Department were dispatched to a major accident on Scott Gardner at FM 1485. When they arrived on the scene they found a 1993 Chevrolet Blazer in the ditch of the westbound lane. Trapped inside were Charli Hemphill, 27, of New Caney and her 4-year-old daughter. After extensive extrication firefighters freed both. MCHD requested PHI Air Medical transported the mother and Life Flight transported the child to Hermann Hospital in Houston. The child was stable, however mom was critical.
The driver of the Dodge Journey was not injured. According to DPS Trooper Sullivan, Phylsis Leonard, 53, of Huffman was westbound on FM 1485 when due to some type of medical condition blacked out. She apparently came to when she crossed the center line and struck the SUV.
FM 1485 remained closed for almost an hour as the crash was investigated.
