NWS
Synopsis:
Rainfall is expected to develop across Southeast Texas on Sunday as an upper level disturbance moves across the state. Another area of rainfall will develop Sunday night and Monday as a stationary front develops along the coast. More widespread rainfall is likely Monday night as the main upper level storm system moving across Texas combines with a surface low moving up the coast. The rainfall will end Tuesday morning as the storm system moves east of the state.
Hazardous Weather:
Forecast models over the past 24 hours have differed on the exact locations for the heaviest rainfall. The latest runs have shifted the main impact areas away from the coast to more over the inland areas. An overview of the latest guidance shows three periods of possible locally heavy rainfall:
1) Sunday afternoon and evening over inland areas mainly west of the highway 59 corridor.
2) Overnight Sunday night and Monday morning area wide with best amounts over the central and coastal areas.
3) Monday night and Tuesday morning area wide mainly inland of the immediate coast.
Rainfall Forecast:
Widespread two-day rainfall totals for Sunday through Tuesday morning are expected to be from 2 to 4 inches. Isolated rainfall amounts of 5 to 6 inches are possible.
Impacts:
Localized flooding is possible by Sunday night, mainly over more urban locations. A flood watch may be issued for the heavier rainfall potential Monday and Monday night.
