Earlier today, the Splendora Police Department was dispatched to East River Plaza to meet with a Victim of Deadly Conduct incident. The victim stated he was driving down Interstate 69 under the 242 Bridge when a vehicle nearly struck his as the lanes changed. The suspect, identified as Gabriel Gonzalez Cruz, of 788 Bateswood Drive in Houston, continued to follow the victim in an aggressive manner before exiting the freeway. The victim continued North on Interstate 69 when he observed the suspect’s vehicle pacing his and firing at his truck. Fortunately, the bullet struck the truck’s bed and nobody was hurt. The Suspect drove off. Members of our Criminal Interdiction Unit were able to match the vehicle through a network of tools available to them. Splendora Police were able to obtain a photo and plate of the vehicle. Officers broadcast a county-wide Attempt to Locate. A wrecker driver spotted the vehicle traveling South on Interstate 69 before turning West on Sh 242. Splendora Officers along with a deputy with Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden, Pct. 4 Constable,… and Patton Village were able to catch up with the suspect’s vehicle and conduct a felony stop. The driver was quickly taken into custody and the firearm was recovered.
