MAN CHARGED WITH CAPITAL MURDER

On Friday, July 10, 2015, at approximately 3pm, the complainant, Anthony Johnson, and the suspect, Julian Villegas, and three other men, were eating at the Chula’s Sports Cantina located at 15155 North Freeway.  They arrived at the Chula’s Sports Cantina after a night of drinking.  All of the men exited the cantina and went to the parking lot.  Once in the parking lot, Julian Villegas pulled out a handgun and shot Anthony Johnson multiple times.  Then he stole Johnson’s 2013 Chrysler 200 and fled the scene.

After Villegas fled the scene, he struck a vehicle and continued to flee.  A witness observed the traffic accident, followed Villegas, and called the Houston Police Department. Houston Police responded to the scene and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.  However, Villegas fled from Houston Police and a pursuit was initiated.  Not knowing Villegas was wanted for murder, the pursuit was terminated when the pursuit placed the public at risk.

A few minutes passed and Villegas was involved in a second traffic accident at 1324 Sue Barnett.  Houston Police quickly responded to the scene of the crash and apprehended Villegas, who had fled on foot.

Sheriff’s Office Homicide Investigators took custody of Villegas and questioned him at their office.  Villegas admitted to investigators that he killed Mr. Johnson.  Julian Villegas was charged with Capital Murder and is currently in the Harris County Jail awaiting trial.
