On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, just after 10 p.m. Conroe Police and MCHD were dispatched to 230 Lexington Ct. in Conroe which is east of I-45 and FM 1488. The call came in from the Backwoods Saloon reporting a motorcycle crash. Units on the scene found Derrick Hintzman, on the ground with extensive head and body trauma. Medics transported him to HCA Conroe Regional where he later died. Another motorcyclist identified as Matthew Flaskrud was also on the ground. He was transported to Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands in stable condition. Conroe Police investigated the crash and with the help of Backwoods, security cameras were able to determine both drivers were traveling down Lexington. As Hintzmzn, who was driving an orange 2002 Suzuki slowed and was turning into the Backwoods driveway. Flaskrud, who was driving a red Harley Davidson motorcycle that was traveling at a high rate of speed failed to slow down and t-boned Hintzman, taking both to the ground. Conroe Police did detect alcohol on Flaskrud’s breath and inquired about his drinking. Flaskrud admitted that he and Hintzman and Flaskruds girlfriend who was following in the vehicle had just left Kat Daddy’s Bar and Grill and had drinks. Flaskrud admitted to consuming two beers at Kat Daddy’s and one at an unknown bar prior to that. Flaskruds blood alcohol tested at .171, just over twice the legal limit. A warrant was issued for Matthew John Flaskurd, age 45, of 16089 Nikta Ct. in Conroe. He was arrested on Tuesday afternoon by Conroe Police and charged with intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle. Judge Grant set his bond at $150,000. He has since made his bond.
