Just after 10:30 am North Montgomery County Fire was dispatched to a reported rescue on I-45 southbound at the Shepherd Hill Exit, The report was that a man was changing a tire on a trailer and the trailer fell on him trapping him. The caller who was with the victim in the vehicle was attempting to find something to raise the trailer. Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable Phillip Cash has Deputies that patrol I-45 for the purpose of assisting motorists. He was in close proximity when the call went out. The deputy arrived to find a small trailer being pulled by a pickup truck. On the trailer was a large commercial pressure washer.
The male was trapped under the trailer. The deputy immediately took a jack from his truck, raised the trailer and pulled the male out, and started CPR. Once first responders arrived they took over but were unable to save the man who was in his 50’s from Houston. After speaking with the victims’ co-worker they learned the trailer had two blowouts. They exited the freeway at Shepherd Hill, just a few hundred feet into Montgomery County, and pulled off to the shoulder.
The victim raised the trailer with a jack which collapsed on the soft soil uneven soil. Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack responded to the scene for the inquest and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
