Man fatally shot during FBI raid in northeast Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Whenever the FBI is involved, there can be a lot of secrecy in the beginning of the investigation.

This case is no different.

The feds aren’t giving out a lot of information, and that’s making neighbors uneasy.

While most people on Elbert Street slept, federal agents and Houston police officers surrounded a home.

The FBI went in. An agent opened fire. A man inside was shot.

He was pronounced dead a mile and a half down the road at LBJ Hospital.

These are the facts.

What isn’t clear is everything that happened in between.

“I can’t tell you specifically why we were here, but I can tell you that it was an FBI operation,” said Christina Garza with the Houston FBI.

“It sounded like an explosion and that was about 3-4 o’clock this morning and it woke me up,” said neighbor Monique McKnight.

The FBI says two children were inside the home when the man was killed. Family came and picked up a boy and a girl.

McKnight says the feds asked her specifically what she knows about the kids.

“I have no idea why and what would be going on in that house,” said McKnight.
On a street where many families have lived there for decades, neighbors say this family just moved into the home.

Just like the media, people living on the street have many questions.

One thing’s for sure, seeing the FBI on their quiet street doesn’t sit well.

“This is disgraceful. This makes our community look horrible,” said McKnight.

The FBI won’t say exactly why they were at the home in the first place.

It’s not known if the man shot and killed was actually living there, or just staying there.

The FBI says the agent involved in the shooting will be placed on leave pending the investigation.

Sources are reporting the person was taken from Montgomery County Wednesday, however, that has not been confirmed.
