Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputies, volunteers and friends spent most of the night searching for Dennis Rogers, 54 who walked away from his home near Plum Grove early Thursday morning and became lost in the woods. For several hours officials were able to track him through his cell phone but just after 9 p.m. the signal was lost.
Liberty County Sheriff’s Captain Rex Evans requested the U.S. Coast Guard to assist in the search. They were able to stay until the cloud cover started to drastically drop. At that point they marked out two deer stands for ground units to check but both were locked.
Deer lease roads run all through the area most very wet and muddy.
Crews finally called it quits for the night at 3am but will start again in the morning.
Rogers suffered a stroke that causes him to become confused and disoriented, which is believed to be the reason he is lost.
