On Saturday, November 29th, 2025, patrol units with the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of Pear Tree Lane in the Inverness Forest Subdivision off FM 1960 and I-45. Upon their arrival on scene, they located the complainant, later identified as 50-year-old Michael Atwood, inside the residence. Atwood was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspected shooter was detained by arriving units. Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide detectives determined that Atwood was a resident at the location, along with the suspected shooter. Atwood had been in a previous dating relationship with the shooter’s daughter, who had moved out of the home several years prior. The shooter, who was cooperative with the investigation, stated that Atwood had become increasingly aggressive and had made numerous threats to him in the previous weeks. The morning of the shooting, Atwood was possibly having a mental health crisis and was acting erratically. The shooter stated he believed Atwood was attacking him and shot him when Atwood came towards him. Pct. 4 Constable’s Office deputies reported being at the home several times in recent weeks due to family disturbances at the location involving Atwood. At this time, no charges are pending against the shooter. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be referred to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for presentation to a grand jury.
