On February 21, 2011, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 25500 block of Many Oaks Drive in Spring, Texas involving the investigation of a dead person.
When deputies arrived a witness at the residence told them that she had come to residence to check on Christie Sumstad (34 YOA) and when she arrived she found the victim dead inside the home.
Sheriff’s Office Major Crime’s detectives and crime scene investigators noted signs of a struggle and initiated an investigation. Justice of the Peace Edie Connelly ordered an autopsy at the time at the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office. The Medical Examiner ruled the death as a “homicide by strangulation.”
On June 20, 2011, investigators met with the District Attorney’s Office and received a warrant of arrest for the victim’s husband, Ryan Lee Sumstad.
Ryan Sumstad surrendered himself to detectives at the Sheriff’s Office the yesterday and was placed into jail and his bond has been set at $500,000.
