Press Release: Entergy Lewis Creek Dam Update 5/24/15 05:00

Mandatory Evacuations are now ordered for residents in the area of concern.

The National Weather Service forecasts predict increased rain and thunderstorm activity on Sunday. This line of storms could bring 2 to 3 inches and damaging winds through Sunday evening. An additional 2 to 4 inches are possible Monday as rains continue.

In light of this information regarding the potential for heavy rain today and with an abundance of caution; The County Judge Craig Doyal, Sheriff Tommy Gage, and Commissioner Precinct 1 Mike Meador met with Emergency Officials and determined that MANDATORY Evacuations are now appropriate for residents that fall in the area of concern at this time (map attached). A Red Cross shelter is open at the Lone Star Community Center in Montgomery. The address for this facility is 2500 Lone Star Parkway Montgomery, TX 77356.

Please know that at this time, the dam remains intact, there are no breaches. Workers continue to make progress to mitigate the soil slides along the levee.

The customer information center is open today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the North Montgomery County Community Center at 600 Gerald St. in Willis. Residents can speak to an Entergy representative about the situation. For general information or assistance please call the United Way 211 call center or 713-957-4357, and choose the “General Information” option. Please do not call 911 unless you have an emergency.

Yeah thank GOD things may be settling down.
I’ve been talking with folks today below that dam area and they were very concerned as we could imagine.
Others can just keep laughing while some keep helping.
All of us on here have a difference of opinion on some issues and then we can agree on the next issue thank goodness we live in a place where that’s possible.
Oh and VO1 no matter how stupid or ignorant a choice you may make in the future there will always be someone there to help you in a time of need wether you like it or not. It’s just the way it is regardless wether you think it’s funny or not.
I’m not hatin on you. I honestly completely understand your point I just respectfully do not agree.

    • Oh I don’t think it’s a funny situation at all. It’s actually sad that some are willing to die and leave their families behind over some dummy.

  2. People who don’t deserved to be saved. That’s so sad. One day it could be your family there. Bet you would be praying for a rescue then. Doesn’t matter now because they lifted the evacuation. No danger. Thankfully.

    • Not going to happen. My family all has what’s known as God given common sense to recognize a dangerous situation and get far away from it especially when told do by someone in emergency services. See we don’t sit around and worry about protecting our material things because we also have the God given sense to purchase insurance on those things and NOTHING is so priceless that it’s worth dying for, NOTHING.

  3. On a positive note all these comments are driving click thru revenue for the site so you’re welcome Scott and Jamie :)

  4. People that don’t heed warnings and refuse to leave danger zones don’t deserve to be saved and it’s laughable that you think the first responders should not come home to their families because some idiot wouldn’t listen and chose to be a hammer head.

  5. I was just having dinner here at the fire station. We all were reading the comments on this one post. It’s a general agreement around the table as I sit with great men that would risk it all so even if one voice did a stupid act that got itself in trouble we would do what it takes to save or protect him/her. Now we may talk about how ignorant he/she may be afterwards but in the moment the life saving goes on. We ALL have done things that seem not smart in hindsight but at the time find ourselves in an emergency. At that moment we do not worry about the intelligent or lack there of choices a person makes. I’m not musically inclined although I love a good banjo I do not nor have I ever tried banging one. However only .05 percent of the U.S. Population are career firefighters like 160,000 out of 320,000,000 (estimated) you may find a banjo banger or two in there.

Bottom line is its a dangerous job and we know it. We signed up to protect and serve life and property of our fellow citizens and that’s from time to time comes at a heartbreaking cost. But that will not change any ones desire to use any gift the LORD gives to be an extension of him on this earth. There are people with self centered attitude in every occupation in 911 field. But we try and police ourselves.
It’s hard to understand this mentality I know. But that’s why we do what we do and not cubical paper pushers.

    • 62 comments and not a single one gets the point that our first responders shouldn’t be put in that situation to begin with. NOBODY doubts the dedication and sacrifice it takes to do the job. It is simply not acceptable in a civilized society to expect a medic, fireman, cop or whoever it may be to give up their life to save some idiot that didn’t heed the warnings. If a freaking cat 5 hurricane is coming and you are screamed at to move your ass out of the way for days and you don’t then tough luck for you. Do you really believe that your family will accept that you’re dead but hey at least he/she died saving some fool who wouldn’t listen? How is that fair or acceptable to YOUR family? It’s not so please don’t tell me that they knew the job you do and accept that because no one does. Warn the idiots, help the old folks get out ahead of time then pick up the bodies of those that made a dumb choice when the threat is gone. Harsh? Nope it’s the way it should be.

  6. They put their lives on the line for people. PEOPLE. it’s astonishing that you canonot comprehend this. It doesn’t matter if the people are smart or in your opinion stupid. If they are elderly or children or average age adult. They do what they do as a selfless act. Wow. You need help, seriously

  7. ” ask your mom about cramps”
Seriously haha. You can degrade anyone about anything from this point forward and this will be what defines you.
A juvenile response like that takes any creditably you may have had to its lowest level. Most people will ignore you like the little kid while moms on the phone.
Not me though I can’t wait for another little baby cute comment. Meanwhile I’ll take banjo lessons.

  9. Incidentally, as you can read in the below posts you can see that I merely voiced a dissenting opinion and the rest just flamed away. So as one poster put it I do not “start arguments” I voice my opinion based on truth and facts but when you switch on the flamethrowers I respond in kind.

  10. If you find it necessary to “give your life” for stupid people then there’s no help for you. Nobody’s job requires this so stop strumming the whole “I run in while you run out” banjo because it ain’t working sunshine.

  11. Anyone want to hear what I think about evacuation? No one? Nobody’s interested in my take? I didn’t think so. I’ll go stalk a different story.

    • conroe911, I would only add to LOL29’s that your comment exuded true conviction. My best friend is a retired fireman. I salute you folks that do what you do. God bless you all.

  12. I’m one of the first responders that would or may have to go in to get people out of harms way. Wether they 9 or 90. And I will tell you that up to this point in this dam scenario that every door in the affected area has been knocked on and notified. There will always be a few not contacted as we are dealing with human nature and that’s not a perfect system. I know hundreds of first responders. Fire, Police and EMS as I’m one myself. We risk our lives every single day and every hour of those days saving people that have made bad choices. We do not let suicide attempts go untreated or speeders who wreck cars knowing they were speeding. We save peopl who purposely do ignorant things regardless of age gender color or wether they live in a 10 million dollar house or a homeless person under a bridge. Compassion and charity with a desire to give yourself unselfishly in the name of someone’s else’s traumatic event or if they simply need a hug on Christmas morning (yes that happens). I guess my point is we do and will offer our lives to anyone who is in need wether they knew better or not. I pray all is safe and well through out this dam issue but if anyone needs help rest assure myself nor any of the first responders I know will sit back and watch someone be hurt and not do EVERYTHING possible to intervene. You may think it’s not fair for someone to put us in that position to have to act. But it’s done every single day and night as most of yallsleep. and we FRs accept that. we fight the enemy owner seas in the name of freedom and liberty for all mankind we are also on homefront risking it all to PROTECT AND SERVE the people of the USA and TEXAS.
    HAVE A BLESSED DAY.

  13. Somebody’s having a meltdown here! I for one pray that the dam does not break for those who live along it, and want to thank those who go out of their way to rescue people. You should really get some therapy, VoiceofOne. You desperately need it

  14. Lol ok call me names that’s mature. I care about humanity in general not just old people. I also care about animals. Haha how stupid does that one make me? I’m not a self centered person who has no heart. Have a wonderful holiday I’m sure you will be spending in your fancy house, in your fancy neighborhood. Spend it only caring about yourself. One day you may wish you cared about humanity.

    • I agree, LOL.
Vof1 likes to start arguments about EVERYTHING. Then when someone makes an intelligent counter statement, Vof1 reverts to name-calling. Vof1 is an angry hypocrite who makes sweeping generalizations & then criticizes others for the same offense. Vof1 is a sad, angry human being. He has my pity & my prayers.

  15. Wow the coldhearted people in this world now days amazes me.. JS! Instead of fusing. We should all be praying for these families. Some of them could lose everything.

  16. Aww using the “think of the old people” line to tug at heartstrings. How quaint. No better argument I see. 90 years old then you’ve lived your life so I guess bon voyage. Want to risk yours? Well that makes you an idiot too. There now you have my final words on the topic. Next please.

    • Read the press release:
“Emergency responders will not be sent in putting their lives in danger for persons who held out. ”

First responders will NOT be sent out to rescue people who did not head the warnings. So you don’t have to be angry any longer.

    • Other reasons not to rescue stupid people: 1) Didn’ wear a seat belt 2) Pregnant away from home in last trimaster 3) Improperly used a ladder 4) Not wearing a life vest 5) Struck changeing a tire and no flares out…… If we would stop providing assistance to all these stupid people, VOO and the rest of us that never do anything stupid would pay alot less for emergency services.

  17. Oh and if your a first responder then Lord help our county. I wouldn’t want someone who hates people so much out there “helping”

  18. VoiceofOne….thank goodness your only the voice of one. I know many, many first responders as well, so don’t pull that card. Also your making yourself look ignorant so I really don’t have to say much. No, I do not call 911 unless it’s actually needed. Think about a 90 year old man who watches the history channel and goes to bed at 7pm. He does not surf the Internet. And you better damn well believe I would go in myself and get him if he needed my help. It’s sad that people like you do not care about other people. Your kind makes the world a hateful place. It’s times like these a community should come together, while your ripping them apart. I almost feel bad for you.

  19. A man noticed his street flooding, a firetruck came by the crew offered the man a ride out telling him it’s going to get worse he stated no the lord will take care of me.Later his lower floor was flooded looking out his second story window a boat came by they offered the man a ride out he declined stating the lord will take care of me. As the man stood on his roof the only dry spot left a helicopter came by offering the man a way out again he refused stating the lord will take care of me. The man drowned. when he met the lord he asked lord I though you were going to take care of me The lord looked at the man and said I sent you a firetruck a boat and a helicopter what else could I have done? Heed the warnings

  20. Voice! I am often impressed with your level headedness and excellent vernacular upon many subjects, but on this matter, you seem to take a hard stand. Perhaps you have a loved one (ones) who are involved with rescue, and you worry about them? If so, I can understand that. But to me, those involved with rescue are trained warriors, men and women, who placed themselves in that position to help and protect those who need help, whether we agree on the matter or not. They have the training, the tools and the equipment to safely extract those in peril. Let us all hope those heroes will not be needed, today. But if they are, then raise a cheer and hail them as the most awesome people that they are! Rescuers, police, firefighters and servers of our country, we salute you!

    • No you’re wrong there. Rescuers are not paid to go in to dangerous places that stupid people who were warned to leave choose to stay. That’s asinine.

      • “Emergency responders will not be sent in putting their lives in danger for persons who held out. ”
        Read the release.
First responders will NOT be sent out to rescue people who did not head the warnings. So you don’t have to be angry any longer.

      • VOO,
Your logic (or lack of), would preclude most people of rescue. Statistically, the vast majority of injuries are the result of people doing something that they either should have, or did know better than to do (something stupid). I pray you are not in any position to influence the policies of any EMS organization.

        • If you’re told to get out and you don’t then you deserve whatever happens. This woe is me mentality is the same thinking of Katrina “victims”.

    • Summersbreeze us rescuers are well train for emergency situations, being warned days in advance and your lack of following directions to keep your self save does not constitute an emergency and why should we put our life in danger to save some one who did not listen to the warnings. your attitude of well i’ll just push my luck because someone will save me if something happens Amazes me.

  21. How about quit arguing on a site set up to inform people and go help if your that worried instead of wasting time and arguing. That is ignorance complaining of the problem but doing nothing to help fix it. If you want to say something I’m heading right now to the shelter to insure people are comfortable and then back into the area to assist. Quit whining and do something or set on your lazy boy and look at the Internet and shut up no one wants to hear you guys argue

  22. They didn’t get old by being stupid. Unless they live in the woods with no tv or indoor plumbing there’s no reason for them to not know. They went door to door yesterday advising people to leave and if they’re that old then they would have been home to be told because people as helpless as you claim they are wouldn’t be out driving around especially in bad weather. So it gets back to the “I’m old and you’re not telling me what to do” attitude and if that’s the case then stay and drown but don’t expect my family to risk their lives trying to come and get your stubborn ass. If you care so deeply about these poor old ignorant souls then you can go get them yourself but I suspect that you’re the same person that would call 911 about a person standing in the road looking like they need help but then tell the dispatcher “oh I don’t know what their problem is I just drove past them”. So in closing, you’re more than welcome to go stand under a dam that’s about to break and rescue all those poor defenseless people that just had no warning and no choice but to sit there and let the lake come crashing down on them but please do t call for help when you get stuck as well. Common sense…..some have it and plenty do not.

    • Don’t call for help? And u wouldn’t help if someone needed it? What about the ppl that have been in same spot for years?everything they worked hard for? Doesn’t mean shat to u because its not u … And if it happened to break ill help wherever I can cuz I’m not a coward what has America come to smh

      • I won’t help people that ignore warnings of imminent danger because they think they can save their personal things. If you choose to die trying to stupidly protect material things then too bad for you and please don’t ask to be rescued or for donations.

        • Well where I’m from we don’t care how ignorant or stubborn u are if u need help we give it.. And try to keep myself around ppl like that … Rather than someone who is as careless with words as u …. To call ppl stupid and make them out as fools for not wanting to leave what they built …smh Good Samaritan ur a winner

          • I repeat my previous comments. Stupid people that ignore the warnings shouldn’t be allowed to put people at risk to save them from their stupid decisions.

  23. Voice, first responders are very well paid, highly trained to rescue (get it? RESCUE?) and you come off as very arrogant when you say ” elderly are stupid. ” don’t forget, you will be in that category one day

    • If you ignore the warnings you are stupid. Period. End of story. Rescuers are NOT paid to do that either. Arrogant? No. Truth teller? You betcha.

  24. “Just because they didn’t know does not make them ignorant”. That’s the exact definition of ignorant. Ignorant is not a bad word but often gets used to hurt someone. Everyone is ignorant in some way.

  25. Not asking resuers to go in for them. I agree that’s a decision they made. I’m saying I personally know a few elderly people who have no family here and were unaware until the fire dept actually knocked on their doors to tell them to leave. So elderly, they needed transportation help. I’m not condoning the comprehensive people. I’m standing for the people who do not know. Just because they didn’t know does not make them ignorant.

  26. Didn’t say that you did. They have received ample warning. If they choose to stay that’s fine but rescuers’ lives shouldn’t be risked for the stubborn or stupid. Those without means can call 211.

    • This is set up so that it only holds back your comments if you’re new or there’s been a problem with you spamming here in the past. We had it so comments posted instantly for everyone, but we were getting tons of spam, some of it from parts of Asia, selling fake designer sunglasses, handbags, etc. Also, when there’s a big drug bust or a homicide or other major crime, friends/family of the suspect create an account just to attack people commenting because they’re fed up with crime, or to attack us because we posted the story and those comments are filled with words and phrases we don’t want on our site. Last, but not least, I’m usually the only one who reads the comments that don’t post so I can trash them if they’re spam or inappropriate because Scott works about 20 out of 24 hours.
Your comments should post automatically now.

  27. VoiceofOne: First, I am baffled you are going to compare this to Katrina. Like LOL said would you just want to leave your home and possessions behind just to come back later and have them destroyed? You want to know whos the problem is? The people who throw rocks at cop cars to get their way or the people who destroy their own city buildings to prove a point ARE part of the problem. Based on your comments you might be part of the problem as well.

Who knows, it might not even break today…

  28. Oh okay, yes the elderly are just stupid. That makes more sense than them not knowing or not being able to leave….. Your a bright one. And might I add your humanity is outstanding!

  29. The first thing I did was look at the radar online, a big line of rain, which, gave us a whoppin three tenths of an inch. Currently, there’s nothing behind it. I realize daytime heating can add more rain, and then there’s that chance of more rain tomorrow, but for me, it would be a tough call to leave my place and property. You have an excellent point, Voice, but I’m wondering if there are those out there who have pets and livestock that they are responsible for……my heart goes out to those who must come to a decision…..

  30. BS. They’ve all been made well aware of the conditions now we put our first responders in danger because people are either hard headed or just plain stupid. Katrina all over again.

    • Do you know what mandatory evacuation means? If a person does not evacuate, no emergency team will come in to help. Why do you insist on stating otherwise?

  31. Some people just wanted to hold out to save what they can. Some senior citizens don’t have the Internet and don’t know what’s happening. Some people were worried about where to go because they didn’t know about the shelter. Would you want to leave your home if you thought it would be destroyed when you returned?

  32. Folks should have left without being told. If you need the govt to tell you what to do then you’re half the problem. They wait till 6am while the storms are moving in to order evacuations? Really?
