Governor Abbott has just issued a statement after a DPS Officer was shot and killed on I-45 near Fairfield, 100 miles north of Conroe.
“With heavy hearts on this Thanksgiving, Cecilia and I express our most sincere condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of the Trooper who was callously killed today in the line of duty. As law enforcement continues to search for the individual responsible for this heinous crime, I ask that all of Texas keep this Trooper and his brothers and sisters in blue in their thoughts and prayers. The killer will face justice, and the State of Texas will continue to offer our unwavering support for the men and women in law enforcement who keep our communities safe.”
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has released a statement that says: “I am saddened to hear of the tragic death of a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper killed today in Freestone County. This trooper died selflessly serving Texas. Please join Angela and me as we pray for the trooper’s family and for the entire Department of Public Safety.”
Law Enforcement Officers are searching the area of FM 1488 near White Cahpel as the vehicle owned by a suspect was spotted. Shots have been fired but there are no injuries. SWAT units and TDCJ Dogs are also on the scene. Authorities believe Dabrett Montreal Black, 32, of Lindale, may be the suspected gunman who fired multiple shots at the trooper from a rifle during the traffic stop.Black is described as a black male, 5’ 11”, 175 lbs. According to authorities, Black left the shooting scene driving a Gray Chevy Malibu LP# JDN4273. He was last seen exiting in Dew and turning left on County Road 189.
