Marginal to Slight Risk of Severe Weather and Excessive Rainfall Today

First situation report issuance for this event.
Overview
An upper level disturbance is expected to bring a line of showers and thunderstorms into Southeast Texas late this morning. Locations in the Piney Woods would be the first to see the storms moving in later this morning and these storms will continue to drift southward into the central portions of the area, possibly into the Houston metro area, by the early afternoon. These storms have the potential to become strong to severe and will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall, strong winds, and hail. The greatest potential for severe weather and excessive rainfall will be in the Piney Woods area (Houston, Trinity, Madison Counties). Keep in mind that a slight risk of severe weather is level 2 out of 5 and a slight risk of excessive rainfall is level 2 out of 4. These storms will be aided by the unseasonably hot temperatures as we reach the upper 90s again today with a few locations reaching the 100°F mark. Chances for showers/storms continue into Sunday night and Monday as a weak frontal boundary approaches from the north. Some areas (especially north of I-10) could see upwards of an inch or more of rainfall over the next two days.
