MCSO ARRESTS MAN ON 2023 HARRIS COUNTY WARRANT AND FIND LARGE AMOUNT OF NARCOTICS IN VEHICLE

On February 2, 2025, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office South Patrol Division deputies received information that a wanted suspect out of Harris County was traveling northbound on I45. The driver was wanted for failure to stop and give information on a crash in June of 2023. That crash happened on Vintage Park Drive in Harris County. Simon, who knew the victim drove into a company parking lot striking a time-limit parking sign. Then as he attempted to leave. The victim was then struck by the sign as his Chevrolet 2500 pickup was dragging it.

Montgomery County Deputies located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old John Philip Simon, was detained. During the stop, deputies discovered a significant quantity of illegal narcotics and vape pens in Simon’s vehicle.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office Deputies took Simon into custody and transported him to the Joint Processing Center in Harris County.  On Friday, February 7, 2025, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office dropped the crash charge and was dismissed due to insufficient evidence even though the business where the crash occurred had good video of the incident and the Harris County at the time was able to make a positive id.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office filed all drug-related charges. This will now bring him back to Montgomery Couty to face charges.

This was not his first rodeo. On February 8, 2017, he was arrested in the 800 block of Glen Holw, with 1.9 pounds of hydroponic marijuana, 2 grams of marijuana wax, $6,600 in cash, and 200 grams of THC-infused edibles. In addition close to $42,000 was recovered. This was after he shipped the money to Colorado for the purchase of marijuana.  The Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team received the information on February 7, 20217 that a large amount of currency was being shipped to Colorado through the Postal Service. One package law enforcement was able to stop contained $36,000 in cash. For that, he was given deferred probation by Judge Grant. That was then terminated in September of 2020., showing completed.
