MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX- Being news media focused on breaking and crime news is always interesting, partially because of its inherent unpredictability and also because every day is wildly different, thereby preventing boredom. Adding to the unpredictability, in recent years, search engines and social media have made it much easier to identify and locate members of the media. This has resulted in exponentially more interactions with suspects, victims, accusers, family members of suspects, victims, or accusers and sometimes their outraged friends who’ve watched too many Lifetime movies.

For whatever reason, the past year has seen an even more dramatic uptick in all these contacts. Many explain how MCPR has ruined their lives because we published their fifth DWI arrest, their assault / family violence arrest, or whatever transgression landed them behind bars again. We’ve even had a few suspects pretend to be attorneys and do so badly… (Pro-Tip: Learn to SPELL “attorney” before threatening news media with legal action if your information isn’t removed!)

The majority of the messages MCPR receives are regarding booking photos, and wanting them removed. About 99 percent of these messages fall into three categories- there’s the sob-story that makes me, personally, want to add the music of Hee-Haw’s All Jug Band singing “Gloom, Despair, and Agony on Me”, and then there’s moaning before it goes on to say, “Deep dark depression, excessive misery! *moaning* “If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all”-(You get the picture, and if you remember the 1970’s you’re probably singing that song in your head now (You’re welcome!).

But I digress. The second kind of message explains why the charges were false, they’ve been dismissed (which may or may not be true), or that they’d like us to remove the booking photo because they were never in trouble before (which is often untrue – sometimes we check just to see if our instincts are correct) or they’ve turned their life around and we’re the reason they can’t find a job. Sometimes, these letters skip the pleasantries and ask just how much it would cost to make their booking photo disappear.

The third most common message we receive is the demand for removal. These often contain interesting falsehoods and / or threats of legal action or various other attempts to intimidate us into removing their booking photo or photos. Often suffering through well-over a dozen in less than a week, it takes serious effort to read the entire message, and a great deal of determination to stay focused.

(For the record, none of the aforementioned messages result in the removal of booking photos.)

Imagine our surprise when this week ended with a plethora of messages regarding one booking photo, but not trying to have it removed. Instead, they wanted us to be aware of the suspect’s fame, or infamy as a well-known porn star.

The Montgomery County Sherrif’s Office arrested Kendra Sunderland Thursday, on I-45 near Shepard Hill Road. Sunderland, whose current address is in Las Vegas, is charged with felony drug possession. Her bond was set at $1,000.

Sunderland is often referred to as, “Library Girl” because of an alleged webcam self-gratification incident around 10 years ago, in the library of her university, resulting in her arrest for indecent exposure. That arrest occurred in Oregon. (We aren’t providing links- Google it with your free hand!).
