MCSO: Regarding County Jail Inmate Death

Message from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (August 1, 2018 9:45 p.m.)

Today at about 1:49 pm, a 59-year-old white male was brought to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office after being arrested by the Pct 5 Constables Office for Public Intoxication.

Due to the males level of intoxication he was placed into a detoxification cell. While in the cell,  the male fell down and staff feared that if the male continued to remain in the cell he could possibly hurt himself.

Jail staff relocated the male from detoxification cell to a single cell with protective walls in an attempt to stop him from falling and hurting himself. Staff conducted regular mandatory checks on the male while he was in the cell.

At about 5:38 pm, Montgomery County  Sheriff’s Office Jail Staff entered the cell to feed the male at which time they found him unresponsive on the floor. Medical staff was summoned to the cell and medical aid was administered.

The male was subsequently transported to the hospital at which time physicians pronounced him deceased.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Texas Rangers who are the lead investigating agency.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the male during this difficult time.
