Tuesday afternoon Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables were working traffic on US 59 near FM 1314 when they stopped a Ford Explorer. With the driver refusing consent to search the vehicle a K-9 was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff and subsequently indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Inside the rear of the vehicle deputies located two large metal boxes with chains. The boxes were welded shut. “Hash” was detecting a strong scent. Constables detained the pair and after taking to vehicle and contents to their maintenance facility were able to cut the boxes open. The boxes turned out to be five 4×4 steel tubes with a steel plate welded to the top and bottom making it look like a box. Using a cutting torch and a chop saw they were able to open the tubes. Inside the tubes they discovered 11.24 kilos (24.7 pounds) of what tested as cocaine and fentanyl. Arrested were Evaristo Marcado and Huber Hyala. Both are being booked into the Montgomery County Jail on charges of Manufacture and Delivery of over 400 grams.
