MESSAGE TO PUBLIC SERVANTS BY CISD POLICE CHIEF REX EVANS

BY: REX EVANS

Yeah…I know. I hear them, too. The screams of a Mother on a scene when you tell her, her child will come home never more. I too, hear the gasps of the little girl hit by a car. I, too can feel the warm blood as it pours through our hands, onto our boots and the concrete or dirt below us.

Yeah…I smell the fire, the smoke, the people who did not escape the hell they were trapped in. I smell it, too. The very presence of death itself inside of that old trailer, apartment, house…even a pasture where someone, traigcally was lost and left behind.

Yeah…I remember the lights flashing off the street signs, the screeching of the tires, the noise of the radio and the mdt. Watching the world go in slow motion while we all travel at light speed from tragedy to tragedy….Never judging. Never condeming. Never seeing the world in the two colors of black and white. We, we saw all the colors. Poor. Broken. Torn. Bleeding. Crying. There was no hatred within our hearts. We only did what we were bound by Oath to do.

Yeah…I remember the ones we’ve lost. Good men. Good women. There was no color to them, either. They were our Borthers and our Sisters. There was only love and compassion for those who stood upon The Line with us in the face of all this darkness and evil.

Yeah…I remember the slides slamming shut on the guns for the 21 Gun Salute. I still, to this day, hear the shrill bugle play TAPS and the Bag Pipes sounding out “Amazing Grace”. I can hear the tears falling on top of the highly polished boots of the Deputy to my right or to my left. In the silent breeze of a Garden of Stone, the sounds of tears falling, can echo like a cannon.

Yeah…I know. Some of you want to walk away. Your tired. Your hurt. You’ve been called everything but your name. You’ve been threatened. You’ve been assaulted. Like me, some of you have even been shot. Yet, here upon this Line do we all still stand.

I will say this to each of you, open and humble. Deputy Goforth’s death can not and must not be allowed to have been in vain. To much has been lost already….There should be no turning in or turning around from what we swore to do.

I shall not falter. I shall not fail. Those who threaten me, those who hate me, those who have and who will try to take my life for no other reason than for the badge over my heart….I shall not turn away. You will not win, because we, together will not allow you to.

Pick up the Bible sometime….Good triumps over Evil. Not everyone and everything has to be bound with hate or a name or a color. We are all God’s children and He is quoted in the pages as saying;
“Blessed are the Peacemakers.”

Never give up. Never surrender. We are not alone in this fight. You do not have to walk this Line by yourself…..you never have and so long as their is air in my lungs and blood pumping through my heart….nor shall you ever.

Sincerely,
Rex
