Saturday night Precinct 4 Deputy Constable Josh Bergland was patrolling Gene Campbell Road when a 1984 Chevrolet pickup approached him and failed to signal onto a dirt trail. As Bergland spotlighted the vehicle he saw the beer in the driver’s hand and turned on his emergency lights.
At this point the vehicle accelerated at speeds up to 50 mph on the dirt trail with Bergland in pursuit driving his Dodge Charger. The chase continued for almost a mile when the suspect ran into a large pool of water causing his truck to stall.
Berglad directly behind him had to wade out to take the driver and his two passengers into custody.
Constable Rowdy Hayden who was off duty but checking on his units assisted in the arrest and the subsequent recovery of the truck from the trail with the Precinct 4 Jeep. Wreckers were unable to make it through the muddy trails to get the truck.
Arrested were 37-year-old Dustin Lee Sawyer, a mechanic from Montgomery. He is charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle. Bryan Joseph Demney, age 32 of New Caney was arrested for Public Intoxication. The female passenger who had no prior criminal history and was not drinking was released.
