Midday crash kills local teen

A Conroe area teen died in a freak automobile accident on Thursday, which police believe was caused by excessive speed.

The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Waukegan Road near Dusty Lane, south of SH 105 where a sedan left the roadway and crashed through a wood board fence, forcing one of the boards through the windshield directly in line with the passenger’s head.

The 19-year-old was already dead when emergency crews arrived. The driver, also 19-years-old, walked away from the crash despite severe damage to the car.

Sgt. Angela Fountain with the Texas Department of Public Safety said the initial investigation indicated the driver was not traveling at the posted speed causing him to lose control of the vehicle and go into a side skid, driving through the fence.

Ironically, Fountain was called to the scene from the courthouse where she was testifying in the trial of a 22-year-old man charged with manslaughter in the deaths of five people due to an accident believed to be caused by excessive speed.

The identities of the two Hispanic males were unavailable on Thursday.
