Just after 4a.m. Sunday morning New Caney and Porter Fire Departments were called to assist Crosby with a seventy unit motel fire.
Crosby got the call at 3:57a.m. at the Crosby Motel located on Old Beaumont Highway just off FM 2100 in Crosby. When they arrived flames were already shooting out of the roof of the two-story complex. With a common attic the spread was quick. According to a guest residents were jumping from the second floor balcony to safety.
Crosby requested help from Channelview, Sheldon, Porter, Baytown, New Caney, Eastex and Dayton fire departments.
When all said and done approximately 20 families were displaced. This included overnight guests and monthly residents. The Red Cross came in and assisted six families with food, clothing etc
Harris County Fire Marshals were on the scene but still have not found anything. Theywill return tomorrow. Crosby will be on scene the next 48 hours keeping hot spots under control.
