The Montgomery County Homeless Coalition will be sponsoring a week of activities to heighten awareness and educate the public about hunger and homeless issues facing many people in our community commencing Friday, November 15th through Thursday, November 21st.
· Friday, November 15 11:30-1pm at the Greater Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber, the public is invited to learn more about the norms of poverty on during a lunch meeting. 11:30-1:30, limited to 40 reserved seats, lunch will be served. Bridges out of Poverty will be the program.
· Saturday, November 16, Resource Awareness Walk (RAW) begins at 8:30 am at the Homeless Service Center (731 W. Davis Parking Lot) for a 3 mile walk around some of the area agencies that serve the homeless or offer services to prevent homelessness-included agencies are Montgomery County Emergency Assistance, Family Promise, Montgomery County Youth Services, the House of Prayer, the Salvation Army, The Oscar Johnson Recreation Center, the Assistance League, and then returning to the Homeless Service Center. Entry fee is a non-perishable food item.
· Monday, November 18, 11am-2pm Empty Bowls Luncheon at Lone Star Family Health Clinic. The public is invited to share a meal of soup and bread like a soup line outside the clinic for a $5 donation. Ceramic bowls handmade by students of Montgomery High School and Lone Star College will be available for purchase. Each empty bowl represents the empty stomachs throughout the community. Funds generated help agencies that serve food to poor.
Agencies that support the Montgomery County Homeless Coalition are Angel Reach, Brazos Valley Community Action, Family Promise, Healing Hands Ranch, Mission Northeast, Montgomery County Women’s Center, RSVP of the Texas Gulf Coast, Montgomery County Emergency Assistance, Montgomery County Youth Services, Tri-County Services, and Children’s Books on Wheels.
