Don Smith with the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables office once again had a busy day Friday. In the pre-dawn hours he was called to a automobile accident involving a mare and her foal. The accident, at Timberland and FM 1314 occurred when a northbound vehicle struck the two as they entered the roadway. The mare was severely injured and the foal suffered a leg injury. Deputy Smith was called to the scene and tracked the owners of the horses to a home on Timberland. The owner advised him the horses some how got out of the fence. The owner agreed to load the animals for a trip to the vet. As for the driver of the vehicle. Deputies are unsure. Many body parts from a foreign made car were found on the scene but the vehicle had fled.
In addition to the crash Smith had to transfer several horses and a mule from east county to the livestock holding area in Magnolia.
One white horse which was picked up on Thursday from the roadway in the area of Rose Road and FM 1484 was one of those being transferred. The horse was found walking on the roadway at that location and an owner could not be found. The hooves of the horse were in extreme need of care.
A donkey was picked up in the Bennette Estates area wandering the streets. An owner could not be found for it either.
Thursday, Smith had a call for some starving horses in the woods on Duck Creek. When he arrived he found two horses with no feed or grass in a make shift corral. The property had been abandon.
With hay and feed prices climbing many animal owners are going to the point of just dumping their animals. Several weeks ago a horse was found tied to a fence inside the cemetery on Morgan Cemetery Road in Splendora.
If anyone recognizes the horses in this story you are asked to call the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables Office.
