Update 7:25 p.m. (This is the information we now have, we’ll update, add, CORRECT, etc. as information becomes available)
An MCSO unit was in Houston working with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Taskforce (under the US Marshals Service). The pursuit didn’t begin in Montgomery County as originally thought. It WAS a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office vehicle, but the pursuit began in Harris county, heading northbound on the I-45 feeder when the suspect ran a red light in the area of I-45 and West Road. One of the vehicles struck another vehicle, and that vehicle (the one not involved in the pursuit) fatally struck a pedestrian. The pursuit continued and finally ended at TX 249 and Smiling Wood Lane.
This is a crash that killed a pedestrian. The fatality occurred during a chase initiated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in Montgomery County. The fatal crash occurred in Houston, so Houston Police will be the lead agency for investigating just the fatal pedestrian crash. Houston Police say the information on the chase will come from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office which as of yet has not responded to media inquiries. At this time it is unknown if the pedestrian was struck by the patrol car or a suspect vehicle.
