Montgomery County residents: This is a friendly reminder that the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will never call and demand payment of any kind. We will not request bail money, payment for missed jury duty, or money on behalf of a family member who has been arrested.
Scammers are calling residents while pretending to be MCSO Deputies or Officers, using different names and threats to sound convincing.
What to watch for:
• Scammers posing as Sheriff’s Office employees, demanding money and threatening arrest.
• Requests for payment through unusual methods (Bitcoin, gift cards, etc.).
• Calls that appear to come from our official number — this is caller ID spoofing.
• Fraudulent calls from supposed bonding companies asking for money to “post bail.”
• Claims of a “second chance” program — this does not exist.
• Criminals using publicly available jail roster information to target families of recent arrestees.
If you suspect a scam, hang up immediately and contact us directly at 936-538-5900 to verify any claims.
Do NOT:
• Rush into payments or decisions under pressure.
• Share personal or financial information over the phone.
Please share this information with your friends and family. Stay safe, Montgomery County!
