A Monday crash has turned fatal.
Shortly after 12 p.m. on Monday, a fuel tanker was travelling northbound on FM 149 near Keenan Cutoff when the driver drifted off the right side of the road. He overcorrected causing the truck to overturn.
The driver was ejected and witnesses unsuccessfully attempted CPR on the scene. When Montgomery Fire Department and MCHD arrived, they also attempted to help him. PHI Air Medical was dispatched to the scene but was cancelled as medics transported the driver to Conroe Regional in critical condition.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at Conroe Regional.
As DPS worked on scene, Montgomery Fire Department and Conroe Fire Hazmat worked to contain the fuel leaking from at least three compartments of the truck that carried over 8,000 gallons of gasoline and diesel.
Hazmat International was also on the scene attempting to contain the fuel in the ditches. The truck was at the top off a hill leaking fuel downward where it was being cut off.
Additional tankers were being dispatched to unload the contents of the damaged tanker so wreckers could begin loading the tank and the heavily damaged cab.
At this time, the name of the victim has not been released as DPS is notifying next of kin.
