At 11:15 a.m. Tuesday morning Montgomery Police were dispatched to a major accident at FM 149 and Lonestar Parkway in the city limits of Montgomery. When they and fire units arrived they found two vehicles with heavy damage in the grass on the southeast corner.
The driver of the 1993 Buick, Michael Lynn Buttercase, age 60 and his wife Addie Buttercase, both of Trinity were dead on the scene. The driver of the 2004 one-ton Dodge pickup, Merle Lester Pritzkau age 61 of Montgomery suffered minor injuries.
Montgomery Police requested DPS to assist in the investigation and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s to respond to the scene.
The investigation continued most of the afternoon with the intersection closed until 3:30p.m.
The investigation determined that the Dodge pickup was east bound on Lone Star Parkway and the Buick was south bound on FM 149. The Dodge pickup ran the stop sign and struck the Buick in the side killing both occupants of the Buick instantly.
Pritzkau was cited for running the stop sign and it will be referred to the District Attorney for possible additional charges.
According to DPS speed, drugs , alcohol or cell phone seemed not to have played into the accident. Pritzkau voluntarily gave a sample of blood for testing.
Several years ago a traffic study was requested on the intersection . It was stated a light was not warranted. However east bound on Lone Star Parkway the stop sign is located approximately twelve feet to the right edge of the roadway and driving with the sun in your eyes could prevent you from seeing it according to one driver who frequents the intersection.
