Tuesday night just after 10pm Montgomery County Precinct 4 Deputy Juan Chapa stopped a Crown Victoria on USU 59 in Splendora. The vehicle was an old police cruiser complete with handcuffs hanging from the mirror and displaying Indiana tags.
As Chapa approached the vehicle he spotted a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle and began speaking to the male and female occupant. Neither story matched as to where they were from or where they were going.
He detained them and had his narcotics dog Porter check the vehicle. He immediately scented drugs.
The vehicle was taken to the Montgomery County Annex and deputies started the slow job of going through it. When they pulled the spare tire out it was extremely heavy and leaving just a small amount of air out of it the marijuana odor was extremely strong. It took almost thirty minutes to cut the tire open using a knife and saws. The marijuana was packed in to it extremely tight.
After cutting the tire open, recovering more from the backseat and also in compartments in the trunk they recovered almost 40 pounds of marijuana and arrested the two suspects who as of yet have not been positively identified.
The vehicle will be seized . Further details on the identity when is is confirmed.
