MOSQUITO TESTS POSITIVE FOR WEST NILE IN THE WOODLANDS

The Woodlands, TX – The Precinct Three Mosquito Abatement team is responding to a mosquito sample that tested positive for West Nile virus in the village of Panther Creek. The Commissioner’s office received word of the positive sample on Tuesday the 24th. The spraying of county right of ways began early Wednesday morning. Extended surveillance of the area has commenced.

The team will begin trapping at sites surrounding the area that tested positive. If additional positive samples or high numbers of the disease carrying mosquitoes are found at these sites, then further treatment and surveillance will occur as needed.

The application of insect repellent whenever outdoors is strongly encouraged. Residents are also advised to eliminate standing water on their property and avoid outside activity around dusk and dawn.
