mulch fire going to be stuBborn

Just after 2:00p.m. a fire was reported at Sleepy Hollow and Trails End just east of The Woodlands. First units on the scene found mulch piles approximately seven to ten acres in size totally involved with winds carrying it to the north.

Multiple alarms were sounded assisting Needham Fire Department now River Plantation, New Caney, Caney Creek, Spring, Klien, The Woodlands and South Montgomery County. Spot fires from the embers have set several smaller fires to the north. All together fifteen pieces of fire equipment responded to the scene. They were assisted by DPS, Precinct 3 Constables and MCSO.

MCHD was dispatched for a firefighter who suffered heat exhaustion.

The land owner had a mechanic working on machinery at the time of the fire. However, not confirmed it is possible sparks from his welding rig ignited the fire.

Texas Forest Service has also arrived on the scene with a dozer.

This will be a stubborn fire to extinguish and residents in the area may see spoke for days. A dozer will be used to spread the pile and extinguish the blaze. Fire crews will continue to monitor the fire.
