A Montgomery County grand jury returned an indictment against a Magnolia man who was involved in a deadly altercation between neighbors on August 25.
Anthony Dwayne Rideau, 41, has been indicted on charges of first-degree Murder and Aggravated Assault.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, their investigation revealed a father and son were walking in the 19300 block of Lakeshore Drive in Magnolia’s Woodland Lakes subdivision, when Rideau approached in his vehicle at what they felt was too high a rate of speed. The posted speed limit was 30 miles per hour. The father and son, Michael and Aaron McMahon, expressed their anger as he passed, but then things got worse when Rideau responded by stopping his vehicle and getting out to confront them, investigators said. The three men argued, and then Rideau allegedly removed a tire tool from his vehicle and attacked the father and son.
All three men were still on location when deputies arrived. Both McMahons were seriously injured and transported to a local hospital where 31-year-old Aaron McMahon was pronounced dead. His father, Michael McMahon, survived. Rideau did not require medical attention.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene, along with MCSO Major Crimes Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators.
Rideau was arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Jail. The arrest was not Rideau’s first. He has a violent criminal history, with a 2003 arrest in Houston for second-degree felony Aggravated Assault Causes Serious Bodily Injury, which resulted in a plea agreement and was reduced to a class A misdemeanor. Rideau was sentenced to one year in jail.
In 2008, Rideau was again arrested in Houston, charged with Assault Causes Bodily Injury / Family Member (class A misdemeanor). He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 1 year probation plus court costs.
