Walker County Suspect Jailed for Murder of Man, Attempted Murder of His Own Wife

SplawnOn Tuesday around 9:15 a.m., deputies with the Walker County Sheriff Office responded to what was later determined to be a double shooting at #9 Sunrise Loop off FM 980.  Upon arrival, officers came in contact with a Hispanic male later identified as 45-year-old Plato Splawn, Jr.

A short time later Plato was determined to be a suspect in the shooting and was taken into custody.

Upon entering the crime scene, just inside the doorway, Walker County Sheriff’s Deputies saw a deceased Hispanic male identified as Edwin Garcia, 25. Garcia had been shot at least once in the head and once in the back with a large caliber handgun.

During the initial investigation it was also determined that Plato fired several shots at his wife, later identified as 35-year-old Sandra Splawn.  At that point, officers began inquiring as to the whereabouts of Mrs. Splawn, due to the fact that she was not on scene at that time. While securing the crime scene, Walker County Sheriff’s Deputies heard a faint yell for help from what sounded like a female’s voice coming from a wooded area to the south of the crime scene.

Officers conducted an immediate search of the area and then located Mrs. Splawn lying on the porch of a neighbor’s residence approximately 300 yards south of the crime scene with a single gun shot wound to the back.  It appeared that Mrs. Splawn fled the scene to a neighbor’s residence to get help but no one was home.  Mrs. Splawn was immediately stabilized by local EMS and was later flown by air ambulance to Houston in critical but stable condition.  The investigations is ongoing, but Plato Splawn is currently being charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault Causing serious bodily injury and is being housed in the Walker County Jail.
