NEW CANEY TRASH FIRE CAUSES TRAVEL TRAILER HOME TO BURN

Just after noon Saturday New Caney and River Plantation firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire on Big Oak Drive just off Pickering. When firefighters arrived they found the structure totally involved with a mobile home exposed to the intense flames. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire but not before it destroyed the home.

A small trash fire burned within feet of the structure. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal was called to investigate.

Just this past week Fire Marshal Jimmy Williams issued a warning that burning with the extreme dry conditions could be hazardous.

In Montgomery County it is illegal to burn anything beside natural vegetation  and that is limited to no more than two inches in diameter and the fire not being in a subdivision. It also states the homeowner must have at least 5 acres and the smoke not be a nuisance.
