New Waverly Firefighters Extinguish Fire in Lumber Manufacturing Plant

Fire started in large sawdust collection hopper, but was quickly contained before it could spread and cause further damage

New Waverly Firefighters were dispatched Wednesday morning to a fire at the Universal Forest Products plant in New Waverly. The fire started in a sawdust collection hopper and was threatening to spread when the first crews arrived. Firefighters set up a water supply from the plants fire water pond and began attacking the fire, while summoning additional crews from North Montgomery County and Huntsville.

New Waverly crews were able to contain the fire before it spread, and then they deployed off a Huntsville ladder truck to completely extinguish the blaze. There were no injuries and although the sawdust hopper suffered significant fire damage, there was no damage to the

rest of the plant.
