NEWBORN FOUND IN WALMART BAG

A baby was found in a bag near a Cypress apartment complex Tuesday evening.

Officials say a woman was walking her dog near the Stonegate Villas Apartments, located in the 11000 block of Grant Road, around 7 p.m. when her dog picked up on a scent.

The dog led his owner to a plastic bag along the fence line of the apartments. The woman found the newborn baby girl wrapped in a plastic Wal-Mart bag.

Emergency crews responded to the scene. The umbilical cord was still attached and was clamped off by EMS, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say the infant is in good condition and is breathing on her own.

She was transported by ambulance to Texas Children’s Hospital for observation.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Crimes against Children Unit is now investigating. Officials say they do not believe the person who dropped off the newborn lives at the apartment complex.

Anyone with information is urged to call the HCSO Crimes against Children Unit at 713-830-3250 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
