A strong cold front has pushed through Southeast Texas bringing in colder and drier air along with gusty northerly winds. Dry and windy conditions will lead to critical fire weather conditions along with hazardous marine conditions through Monday.
- A Red Flag Warning is in effect for all of Southeast Texas through this afternoon.
- A Fire Weather Watch remains in effect for all of Southeast Texas through this afternoon.
- A Gale Warning is in effect for the Gulf waters through Monday morning.
- A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for the bays through Monday morning.
- A Wind Advisory is in effect for areas around Matagorda Bay through this afternoon and for the barrier islands through Monday morning.
- A Low Water Advisory is in effect for Galveston Bay through Monday night.
Critical Fire Weather Conditions
The combination of windy conditions and dry air will lead to critical fire weather conditions today and Monday. Minimum relative humidity values this afternoon will be in the 25-35% range and in the 15-25% range on Monday afternoon. While the driest conditions will hold off till Monday, winds will be the strongest today. This will rapidly dry out fuels which increases the risk of fire starts. As a result, a Red Flag Warning is in effect for all of Southeast Texas through this afternoon. Winds on Monday will start out gusty, but gradually subside throughout the day. The Texas A&M Forest Service has outlined Southeast Texas in a very high to extreme forecast fire danger rating for today and high to very high forecast fire danger rating for Monday. A Fire Weather Watch remains in effect for Monday for all of Southeast Texas. Please continue to take extra caution especially if working with equipment that can cause sparks. Continue to obey all burn restrictions and local burn bans.
