On November 8, 2011 at 11:47 A.M. multiple apparatus from Needham Fire Rescue responded to a smell of smoke incident at the Oak Ridge High School 9th grade campus on Oak Ridge School Road.
Once on scene fire personnel began the investigation to find the source of the smoke. It was determined that maintenance workers were using a torch on the roof while performing routine maintenance on the building. As a precaution approximately 800 students and 82 faculty and staff were evacuated to the parking lot while the investigation continued. Later, because of heavy rain the students were moved to a gym at Oak Ridge high school
Upon further investigation it was determined that the HVAC system was actually drawing the smoke from the work being performed on the roof into the building and distributing the smoke and odors into three rooms of the building.
No injuries were reported from students, faculty and staff or fire personnel.
Needham Fire Rescue would to thank members of River Plantation Fire Department, South Montgomery County Fire Department, Conroe ISD Police, Conroe ISD Maintenance Department, Montgomery County Hospital District and Precinct 3 Constable’s Office for their assistance with this incident.
