Edward Ernest Allen, Jr., 77, of Conroe, Texas, passed away on August 12, 2024, after a battle with cancer. Eddy was born on February 9, 1947, to Edward “Sonny” Ernest Allen, Sr., and Alice Carolyn Clark in Beaumont, TX. After Eddy graduated from South Park High School in 1965, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force. Eddy went on to study Criminal Justice (bachelor’s) and Education, Guidance and Counseling (master’s) at Lamar University. In 1963, Eddy met Linda Carol Adams in Jasper, TX. Eddy and Linda were wed on November 20, 1965, and went on to have three children, Cherie Sue Allen Baker (d. 2020), Joel David Allen, and Leslie Yvonne Allen.
In 2008, Eddy retired from the Air Force and began a role as Executive Director of a halfway house in Lake Charles, LA. He strongly believed that his life should be spent in service to others. He was a dedicated advocate for the healing and restoration of ex-convicts. In 2019, Eddy retired from his second career in criminal justice and counseling and spent his time volunteering with the Salvation Army, counseling those in need, serving as an elder in his church community, and indulging in his passion for all things automobile.
Eddy was predeceased by his father, Edward Ernest Allen, Sr., his mother, Alice Carolyn Clark Thousand, his step-father, Charles Edward Thousand, Sr., his step-mother, Dixie Allen, his brother, Charles Edward Thousand, Jr., his brother, John Allen, his step-sister, Bernadette Thousand Huckabay, his step-sister, Charlene Thousand, and his daughter, Cherie Sue Allen Baker.
Eddy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda Adams Allen, his brother, Larry Allen, his brother, Lynn Thousand, his son, Joel David Allen, his daughter, Leslie Yvonne Allen, his daughter-in-law, Adrianne Allen, his son-in-law, David Baker, his granddaughter Kelsey Baker, his granddaughter, Madison Diaz, and her husband, Jaime Torres, his grandson, Avery Allen, and his wife, Rowan Allen, his granddaughter, Autumn Bellard, his grandson, Riordan Baker, and his grandson, Nathan Allen.
Services will be held at First Christian Church in Conroe, TX., on August 17, 2024, with a visitation that starts at 3:30 pm, the funeral service that begins at 5:00 pm, and a graveside military service on August 18, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Erin Community Cemetery in Jasper, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Christian Church of Conroe food pantry, an organization Eddy felt strongly about.
