Marcel R. Dionne, age 76, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015. He was a member of Our Savior Catholic Church, member of Masonic Lodge of Alabama lodge #878, National Fraternal Order of Police Officers, and a lifelong community volunteer. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956-1964. He later went on to serve in the Civil Air Patrol having held the rank of Major while performing duties as a helicopter pilot. He was a talented airplane and helicopter pilot and loved to fly. While serving in this capacity, Marcel started the first Aerial Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) that worked in association with the Harris County Sheriff’s Department to aid the police department in the search and recovery of missing children, victims of tragedy, and the capture of fugitives for the state of Texas. While working for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, he was awarded the Police Officer’s Medal of Merit and the Meritorious Service Life Saving Award. He was dedicated police officer serving for 30 years; 17 of which in multiple specialties as a detective. He retired from active duty as the Assistant Chief of Police of Patton Village, Texas and moved to Semmes Alabama to be closer to his family. He continued to serve the public well after retirement in the reserve police officer’s units of Citronelle and Mobile County. He finally traded law enforcement for Karaoke singing and Line dancing which he loved with a passion. He is survived by his sons, Michael Marcel Dionne, Raymond Paul (Cissy) Dionne and David Allen (Michelle) Dionne, siblings, Herny Dionne, Raymond Dionne, Theresa Austin and Andrea Richards, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 5 pm until 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Savior Catholic Church on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 10 am.
