OBITUARY- LEWIS H. WALKER JR. -FORMER MONTGOMERY COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY

Lewis H. Walker Jr.On December 3, 2015, Lewis H. Walker, Jr. entered the gates of Heaven joining family and friends. January 24, 1947, in Mobile, Alabama, Lewis was born into a family of love, service and sacrifice. The first child of Lewis H. Walker and Sue T. Tharp Walker, Lewis grew up in a military family moving to numerous Air Force bases along with three years in Japan and several visits to New Zealand during father’s assignment as Air Attache. After assignments to several bases in Texas, five years in San Antonio established the base for the family.

Upon graduation from Biloxi High School, Lewis enrolled at Sam Houston State College. An active ROTC cadet, Lewis served as Cadet Commander of the Counter Guerrilla Company his junior and senior years. Lewis met his future wife, Sharon Nichols, on a blind date their second year. At graduation, Lewis was recognized as Distinguished Military Graduate from the ROTC Program, therefore he received his Commission into the regular Army. During his three years in the Army, Lewis became an Airborne Ranger, achieved the rank of Capt., and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) after his tour in Vietnam.

Lewis loved the idea of “roots” and joined Sharon in Conroe after requesting release from his Army commission. He taught and coached for Conroe ISD for three years before entering a career in law enforcement. With a BS in Sociology/Law Enforcement, Lewis brought his skills, experience and knowledge to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1983. Lewis gave over 18 years serving the citizens of Montgomery County.

Continuing his life of service, Lewis volunteered his time and talents to his church, First Presbyterian Conroe. Also participating through memberships in the VFW, FBI National Academy Assoc., the Sheriff’s Assoc. of Texas, and the SHSU Alumni Assoc., Lewis maintained connections with former classmates, friends, coworkers, and associates.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Sue Walker, and his uncles George Walker and William Walker. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon Nichols Walker; son, Lewis H. (Chip) Walker, III and wife Jennifer; son, Nicholas L. (Nick) Walker and wife Lindsey; three grandchildren, Avery, Abby, and Masen; his brother, David Walker and wife Andrea, sister-in-law, Darin Bailey and husband, Beryl; brother-in-law, Richard Brent; and aunt & uncle, Derita and Jim Tharp.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 pm until 8 pm on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, 2727 North Loop 336, 77304. A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on December 11, 2015 also at First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow the service in Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery, FM 1314 (next to Mims Baptist Church). The family request contributions to the First Presbyterian Church building program or a charity of choice rather than flowers.
