Mike Porcher, son, father, grandfather, brother, husband, and lifelong friend was called home on July 16, 2014. He was surrounded by family and friends on his final days and left this earth knowing that he very much touched so many lives. Mike was born on July 21, 1955 in Lubbock, TX to George & Ethel “Pinky” Porcher. Mike’s passion for drag racing was beyond measure. He lived for “RACE DAY”. If you knew Mike, you also know he would pester and pull a prank on you relentlessly and then turn around to help you with parts, advice or tuning. His passing has left a void in our family, his racing family, and many more lives that can never be filled. As one of his closest friends said, “Those of you that know the struggles and hardships of racing, the agony of defeat, and sometimes the smell of victory, know that Mike Porcher left this earth a CHAMPION”.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Kim McDonald; children, Drew Porcher and wife Sarah, Max Porcher, Pushrod Porcher, and Shelby Porcher; grandson, Chase Porcher; parents, George & Ethel “Pinky” Porcher; brother, Kevin Porcher; Aunt Billie and Uncle Bill McKown; niece, Courtney Porcher; nephew, Brandon Porcher; and many friends.
A Celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Eickenhorst Funeral Services, 1712 N Frazier at Wilson, Suite 115, Conroe, Texas 77301.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
