OBITUARY Paul Doug “Smitty” Smith

Paul Doug (Smitty) Smith, Sr. was born February 5, 1950, in Houston, Texas, and went to be with our Lord on September 15, 2025.

 

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Doug was a volunteer firefighter with the Lake Conroe Fire Department. He loved serving the community. He loved his Lab “Missy” and Missy loved him. He was the founding Pastor of Cornerstone Church and ministered to many people.

Doug loved riding his Harley-Davidson. He was a motorcycle safety instructor and honorary member of the Blue Knights and Road Captain of the Harley Cut-n-Shoot Chapter. After his daughter, Meghann Smith, was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 18, Doug devoted his life to preventing drunk driving and founded DWI Tracker in coordination with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.

Doug’s daughter, Shannon, was his “Rosebud,” and Meghann was Daddy’s little “Cowgirl”. His two granddaughters, Lacey and Aubree, loved their Paw Paw very much and loved giving him lots of hugs.

Doug was preceded in death by his parent,s Earnest Smith (father), Allan and Helen Cook (Stepfather and Mother), and beloved daughter Meghann Marie Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife Margaret Smith; sons, Doug Smith, Jr., and Brad Smith; daughter, Shannon Marie Tatum and husband Scott; grandchildren, Lacey Hamilton and Aubree Tatum, and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Denise Strybos, Donna Kay Wells and husband Gary, Terry Fontenot and husband Mike and Sherry Kozel and husband Ben.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 2:00 pm in Cashner Colonial Hall with Pastor Wade Phillips officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services. Burial will follow in Garden Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Bill Juroska, John Bernard Hoffart, Ronnie Hoffart, Doug Smith Jr., Perry Lyman, Levi Wainwright, Michael Juroska, and Tommy Winkler.
