OFF DUTY HPD OFFICER COMES TO THE RESCUE

Oswaldo Hernandez said he felt lucky tonight to have an HPD officer, who was  on his way to work, stop by and help him. Hernandez got off work and was waiting for a Metro bus near the intersection of Crosstimbers and 43rd just after 10:30pm Saturday. After awhile he got impatient and decided to walk to the next stop a few blocks away. As he did a black Honda, possibly Civic stopped and three black males got out. They surrounded Hernandez and attempted to rob him. One punched Hernandez in the face. Hernandez was able to escape into the intersection and attempted to flag motorists down for help. Not one vehicle stopped. That was until a Houston Police Officer on his way to work stopped in his personal car. As he exited the vehicle and learned what had happened the three black males fired several shots at the officer and fled. Neither the officer or Hernandez were hit, the officers vehicle was not struck. Hernandez said he saw the muzzle flash and heard the bullets richoching off a fence and the wall of a nearby home on he corner.

Hernandez said he really felt good that a off duty officer stopped and put himself in that situation when all the other motorists drove by without stopping.

Houston Police want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this or seen the vehicle or suspects.
